God's presence is not to be escaped; his spirit is everywhere. "In him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). When Jonah sought to flee from his presence, he only found himself brought more absolutely and more perceptibly into his presence (comp. Jeremiah 23:24).
What does Psalm 139:7 mean? If David wanted to escape from God's all-encompassing knowledge, he would not find any place to hide from God. Elijah fled to the desert south of Judah to escape Jezebel's wrath, but he could not distance himself from the Lord.
