To implement the safety, health and welfare measures necessary for protection of employees, as identified through risk assessments and ensuring that these measures take account of changing circumstances and the general principles of prevention specified in Schedule 3.
The rights and obligations of both employers and employees in relation to health and safety at work are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (as amended). This Act also provides for substantial fines and penalties for any breaches of the health and safety laws.
The 2005 Act contains provisions for securing and improving the safety, health and welfare for all workers. It updates, repeals and replaces its predecessor, the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989.
