Pulau Bidong is a small island in Terrenganu, Malaysia. It is situated off the coast of Terengganu in the South China Sea. A refugee camp for Vietnamese boat people was set up on this island by Malaysian government and UNHCR. It was officially opened on August 8th, 1978 and closed on Oct. 30th, 1991.

The Vietnamese Heritage Museum (VHM) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of our Vietnamese refugees’ heritage. VHM collects and shares the testimonies and artifacts that tell the stories of the Vietnamese refugees.

At the time Pulau Bidong was a refugee camp for Vietnamese boatpeople; at times about 5 000 people were there; mostly Vietnamese, plus various Malaysian and international workers.
Stayed in Marang Transit Camp for over 2 days awaiting for bad weather to subside before being transferred to Pulau Bidong by the "Blue Dart" boat. Arrived at the "Cầu Jetty" at 1:30pm on June 20, 1983. First day to be a refugee (ID under boat number PB942) was in a heavy down-pouring due to the Monsoon. Stayed in Zone C until April 30, 1984 ...
