16 Σεπ 2024 · The two bows are connected by two ornate plaques, one on each side of the vessel. The plaques bear the name of Isabel on one side and Fernando on the other. This pays hommage to Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, King and Queen of Spain who sponsored Columbus's expeditions and voyages.
Two large pavements for pedestrians and bicycle lanes were also placed, and, in 1976, it was declared a National Historic Monument in order to protect its preservation. The reason it bears the name of Queen of Spain Isabel II is precisely because it was built at the time of her reign, specifically inaugurated in February 1852.
