Keeping them out of the garden is the only sure-fire method for preventing damage. Because raccoons are agile climbers, an electric fence is the best way to keep them out. A two-wire arrangement is recommended, but a single wire placed about six inches above the ground might be sufficient.
How to trap and remove a raccoon. Raccoons are relatively easy to catch in traps. A cage or box trap should be used in populated areas or if you have free-ranging pets in your neighborhood. Use a well-built trap that is at least 10-inches by 12-inches by 32-inches.
Since skunks – as well as raccoons, bats, groundhogs, foxes and coyotes – are rabies vector species, they should not be relocated like other wildlife. Homeowners who set traps and catch these species face the choice of dispatching the animal or releasing it.
