27 Μαρ 2024 · If you are a "scanning" enthusiast, this is not as feature-rich as something like the Uniden SDS 200. One should consider the AOR DV1 to be a communication receiver with some added scan/search functionality. One of the best reviews written is here: N9EWO Review AOR AR-DV1 DIGITAL VOICE RECEIVER.
Although the reception on VHF/UHF is acceptable, the antenna is deaf on HF even after 2 stages of preamplifier switched on. As a broadcast only antenna it can be used on HF, but definitely not on amateur bands. I have long wire, dipole, end fed half wave and vertical antennas to compare.
I can honestly say the AOR scanner is better built, a better performer and more fun than the R8500 and it was the worst thing I ever did trading it in. I would absolutely recommend it 100% to anyone who is considering is as a wideband receiver.

22 Μαρ 2018 · Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Dave Zantow (N9EWO), who has recently posted his review of the AOR AR-DV1 digital voice receiver. As with many of Dave’s reviews, this evaluation takes a close look at HF and mediumwave performance which isn’t the AR-DV1’s strong suit.
24 Νοε 2022 · Most scanner antennas are a compromise. Normally a coil in an antenna is to "separate" the eliments such as with a half over a quarter wave dual band 2m/440. Same effect with a receiver.
It doesn't make squealing noises like really low-end scanners do on the outdoor antenna, but it looses receive sensitivity when one of the pager transmitters is on. So I operate it with the whip antenna on the back which fixes all the weirdness.
