I connected the antenna (3m above ground) with 30 m RG-213 to various ICOM transceivers. Although the reception on VHF/UHF is acceptable, the antenna is deaf on HF even after 2 stages of preamplifier switched on. As a broadcast only antenna it can be used on HF, but definitely not on amateur bands.
As it now is quite a few generations old, this receiver is suprisingly good. Quick scan, better selectivity than most new China made plastic boxes (all new rx no matter what the label says) and definitely most SDR-based receivers in the low and middle price segments.
27 Μαρ 2024 · If you are a "scanning" enthusiast, this is not as feature-rich as something like the Uniden SDS 200. Comparing reception between the AR8000 and the newer PRO-94, I found the AR8000 consistantly whipped the PRO-94 on every band, I was pickin' up stuff from the military base 100 miles, with the stock antenna!
Most scanner antennas are a compromise. Normally a coil in an antenna is to "separate" the eliments such as with a half over a quarter wave dual band 2m/440. Same effect with a receiver.
