Raiden being so human makes Snake look like an even bigger badass for being so strong and unflappable. So not only is Raiden someone we can sympathise with and relate to - his flaws make those around him look better by contrast. He really is an incredible character.

Best part about Raiden is that he is not a perfect character. He’s a former alcoholic, just a kid who is easily underestimated, a former child soldier, a pretty horrible boyfriend, but none of that got in the way of his missions.
Take the advice of MGS2 and go the fuck outside. Raiden, log out of Reddit right now! So I've been a fanatic of this franchise for some time now, but I've only just thought of a question that very little seems to ask; To get the best Metal Gear experience, should you play the games in release or chronicle order? I thought of this while debating the same question about Star Wars.
I'll write it which you should play on chronological order. And some tips. MGS3 Subsistence (Canon + with 3rd person camera view + PS3 version) -> MGS Portable Ops (Semi canon but worth it.) -> MGS Peace Walker (Canon + PS3 version) -> MGS5 GZ & PP (Grind first enjoy the story later.) -> Metal Gear 1 (First game but hard.
Just start with the MGS series and play them in order of release. So MGS 1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, then 5. I'm a HUGE Metal Gear fan but still believe this is the best way. Why? You get to play the games the way everyone else did for the first time. Even though it's not chronological order story wise, the story revelations play out better that way.
