A jury in 2007 convicted the mother, Raye Dawn Smith, 31, of enabling child abuse of her daughter, Kelsey, 2, who died in 2005. Smith is serving a 27-year prison sentence.
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals rejected Smith's appeal, upholding her conviction of enabling child abuse in the case of Kelsey Briggs. Two-year-old Kelsey died as a result of severe child abuse in 2005.
