In the final scene of The Godfather Part 2, we see the Corleone family come together to celebrate the birthday of patriarch, Don Vito. The scene, which is seen as a flashback through the eyes of Michael, takes place after Michael has taken care of all the loose ends in the narrative.
Vito also quietly located and killed the thugs who Don Ciccio had sent to kill him as a child during his exodus from Sicily. He and his partner, Tommasino then set up a meeting with the aging Don Ciccio under the pretense of gaining his blessing for the olive oil business.
Upon Vito's death, Michael succeeds him as Don of the Corleone crime family. Vito oversees a business founded on gambling , bootlegging , prostitution , and union corruption, but he is known as a kind, generous man who lives by a strict moral code of loyalty to friends and, above all, family.
