Tenshin Reb Anderson. In 1983 Tenshin Reb Anderson received shihō from Zentatsu Richard Baker, becoming Baker's first Dharma heir (though Baker disputes this). From 1986 to 1988 he served as abbot of the San Francisco Zen Center, and from 1988 to 1995 he served there as co-abbot with Sojun Mel Weitsman.
Eijun Linda Cutts came to San Francisco Zen Center in 1971, where she practiced with Suzuki Roshi, Zentatsu Richard Baker, and Tenshin Reb Anderson. She was ordained as a priest in 1975, and has lived at Tassajara and the City Center.
Tenshin Zenki Reb Anderson (born 1943) is an American Buddhist who is a Zen teacher in the Sōtō Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki. He is a senior dharma teacher at the San Francisco Zen Center and at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center in Marin County, California, where he lives.
Senior Dharma Teacher and former abbot of San Francisco Zen Center, Tenshin Roshi lives and teaches at San Francisco Zen Center’s Green Gulch Farm/Green Dragon Temple in Marin County, California, where he trains priests and dharma teachers as well as visiting and resident lay students.
Tenshin Reb Anderson left advanced study in mathematics and Western psychology to practice Zen with Master Shunryu Suzuki, who ordained him as a priest in 1970. In 1983 he was made Dharma lineage holder, and in 1986 he became Abbot of the three Zen Center locations at Green Gulch Farm, San Francisco and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.
Reb Anderson Roshi moved to San Francisco in 1967 to study Zen Buddhism with Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, who ordained him as a priest in 1970. Since then, he has continued to practice at the San Francisco Zen Center, where he served as abbot from 1986 to 1995 and is now a senior dharma teacher.
