19 Ιουν 2021 · Did you say “red hammer”? Congratulations! You’re part of the 98% of people who said the same answer. If you answered something other than a red hammer, you belong to the 2% of the creative, out-of-the-box thinkers. That’s the Red Hammer mentalist trick. It looks easy, right?
For a given category (e.g. "tools") we have some representative example (e.g. "the hammer"). It's possible that, when prompted to think of a tool, most people think of a hammer. Similarly, they think of red when asked for a color. That said, I suspect the 98% figure is fabricated.
98% of the people would answer in this way and only 2% would think out something else. If you correctly replied to any half of the above responses (i.e.: either color RED, or device HAMMER), you belong to 98% of those with the same answers!
Falsely claim a 98% success rate. The math problems at top are just there to give this trick some credibility. If I told you to think of a color and a tool out of the blue, and then I correctly guessed them, you would probably tell me "lucky guess".
What makes you think it does? You'd need to run a test against a control group not primed with the questions to check. "Hammer" could just be the first tool that comes to most people's minds. (For me it was "screwdriver", probably because I don't own a hammer but I do own several screwdrivers.)
9 Απρ 2005 · In my classes, when I would give the "red hammer" test, I might ask some students to name a type of bird and others to draw a bird. The word "robin" came up most frequently and drawings of a bird almost invariably showed a robin-like bird standing, rather than flying.
18 Ιαν 2008 · RED HAMMER. If red hammer is not your answer, you are among 2% of people who have a different, if not abnormal, mind. 98% have thought of a red hammer while doing this exercise. I actually was moving so fast that I didn’t notice the instruction to pick a color. But I did come up with hammer.
