The series is like Final Fantasy, none of the games are connected and are all stand alone stories bar the numbered sequels. You have some exceptions like Zesteria 》Berseria, but outside of Zesteris being a prequel set in the same world. Both games have their own stories and gameplay.

Yes, games can be played in any order. They're all standalone IIRC. And Vesperia's the best one, start with that one! I would recommend Berseria or Vesperia first as they are generally considered among the best of the modern tales games you listed (symphonia is great but somewhat aged as it was a gamecube era game).
I'm interested in the Tales of series, and I remember playing Tales of Symphonia with a friend years ago, but I have no idea what order in which to play them for the most continuity. Can anyone suggest a list of tales games in the best order?
20 Ιαν 2023 · Symphonia and Phantasia are linked, as are Tales of Destiny and its sequel, Tales of Xillia and its sequel, and Tales of Berseria and Zestiria take place in their respective worlds. Throughout the years, the Tales games have been released in Japan first, so we have based this order on those dates.
There's only 3 direct sequels (Sympohonia 2, Destiny 2, Xillia 2) and then there's prequels (symphonia to phantasia)(tempest to innocence)(berseria to zestria) however the prequels were all made after the original and are thousands of years apart so no reason to care what order you play them.
