I was looking everywhere for a new region free solution and came across this post the same time UB820 went on sale over the Black Friday weekend. Just tried this method out for my criterion Blu Ray and it worked!
26 Νοε 2006 · I had a Panasonic CP-72 modified for SDI and coax audio (both of which work fine) and also Region Free. My player was having trouble reading a few discs, and I also thought I wasn't doing the key press combo properly for the regions, so I tried to follow JVB's instructions.
There are websites where you can obtain new firmware for your specific model of Panasonic DVD player that will enable you to tell it to play DVDs from one specific region, or to be "Region Free" which means it can play DVDs from anywhere all over the world. Find a "Region Free IR" code.
22 Φεβ 2015 · I’ve just purchased a Panasonic DMR-PWT560 (GN) as many had written that it could be set region free by Panasonic Authorised service centres at no cost, and this was confirmed by customer service. Though I understand any firmware update would overwrite the mod.
29 Ιουν 2017 · A friend purchased a DVD online and tried to play it on my one-year-old Panasonic DVD player. The unit wouldn’t play the disk because the media was not region-4. I conducted a quick search online and discovered it’s possible to configure the unit to be multi-region.
