The recommended starting dose of Relafen DS is 1,000 mg taken as a single dose with or without food. Some patients may obtain more symptomatic relief from 1,500 mg to 2,000 mg per day. The dosage may be increased to 1500 mg or 2000 mg per day given either as a single dose or in two divided doses. Since RELAFEN® has an average plasma half-life of 23 hours in healthy young subjects and 30 hours in elderly patients, plasma levels of 6-MNA will approximate steady-state within one week of dosing.
