1 Δεκ 2020 · Tig Welding with a nice sharp tungsten is my favorite method for removing broken bolts and taps. I used to set a nut on top and reach down into the hole to weld the nut to the broken remains. Now I don't even do that.
13 Φεβ 2011 · The best advice is to remove the manifold so you can work on your bench. Trying to extract the broken stud wile laying on your back under the car is going to cause no end of heart burn. I recommend removing all 6 studs (assuming you have 2 manifolds) replace them with new studs and plenty of antiseise and brass nuts.
Unfortunately, when working on old machinery, broken studs and bolts are a fact of life. The following provides a number of different approaches that have been helpful over the years and may provide some less obvious solutions. It is assumed that cast iron and steel are the materials involved.
