REPUBLIC ACT No. 8249 February 5, 1997. AN ACT FURTHER DEFINING THE JURISDICTION OF THE SANDIGANBAYAN, AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1606, AS AMENDED, PROVIDING FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled: Section 1.
This document is the text of Republic Act No. 8249 from February 5, 1997 which further defines the jurisdiction of the Sandiganbayan court. It amends the Presidential Decree No. 1606 to expand the Sandiganbayan's jurisdiction to try anti-graft cases involving public officials in certain positions, as well as other offenses related to their office.
Under Republic Act (RA) No. 8249, the Sandiganbayan has jurisdiction over accused public officials only when they occupy positions corresponding to Salary Grade 27 or higher. Thus, RA 7080, insofar as it provided that all prosecutions for plunder fell within the Sandiganbayan's jurisdiction, was impliedly repealed.
