(Acts 17:22-23) Paul begins to speak on Mars’ Hill (the Areopagus). Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
The dignity and destiny of man (Acts 17:26-29). (1) As forming a divinely constituted brotherhood, all nations, or every nation, of men having been made of one blood, or simply of one (stock, or blood must be supplied), for to dwell on all the face of the earth.
8 Ιουν 2020 · Acts 17:22-27 ~ Unveiling the “Unknown” God Paul seizes the opportunity to tell the Athenians about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in terms they would understand; using an altar to an “unknown god.”
Later he tells them there was a time when God winked (overlooked) that ignorance. 1. He had revealed Himself to nation Israel. 2. Now through Jesus, revelation is clear to all the world. 3. Now God commands men everywhere to repent. 2. He was the creator.
We have a necessary and constant dependence upon his providence, as the streams have upon the spring, and the beams upon the sun. (1.) In him we live; that is, the continuance of our lives is owing to him and the constant influence of his providence; he is our life, and the length of our days.
PAUL AT ATHENS. Acts 17:22 - Acts 17:34. ‘I am become all things to all men,’ said Paul, and his address at Athens strikingly exemplifies that principle of his action.
