19 Σεπ 2023 · Rhomboid minor and major receive arterial blood from three sources: Dorsal scapular artery and deep branch of transverse cervical artery. Both of these blood vessels stem from the thyrocervical trunk. Dorsal branch of upper five or six posterior intercostal arteries, branches of the thoracic aorta.
2 Νοε 2024 · Actions: Retracts and rotates the scapula. Innervation: Dorsal scapular nerve. Access this feature with pro. The rhomboid major is an extrinsic muscle of the shoulder. It is located deep to the trapezius, and inferior to the rhomboid minor.

The rhomboid major helps to hold the scapula (and thus the upper limb) onto the ribcage. Other muscles that perform this function include the serratus anterior and pectoralis minor. Both rhomboids (major and minor) also act to retract the scapula, pulling it towards the vertebral column.
28 Ιουν 2023 · Contraction of this muscle stabilizes the scapula against the ribcage at the scapulothoracic joint. It allows it to rotate and retract towards the spine during shoulder and arm movements, resulting in inferior rotation of the glenoid cavity, letting you drop your shoulders.
21 Οκτ 2024 · The rhomboids form two parallel bands of muscle, originating from the spinous processes of the 7th cervical vertebra and the 1st to 5th thoracic vertebrae. The rhomboid major originates from just below the rhomboid minor.
Action: Retracts and downwardly rotates pectoral (shoulder) girdle at acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joints. Innervation: Dorsal scapular nerve (C4-C5). Arterial Supply: Dorsal scapular artery, dorsal branches of upper posterior intercostal arteries.
