3 Απρ 2015 · Studies revealed decreased levels of the micronutrients riboflavin, magnesium and coenzyme in plasma and in the brain of migraine patients [7 - 9]. A deficit of these nutrients could play a role in the pathophysiology of migraine. Mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with migraine [10, 11].
15 Οκτ 2024 · CoQ10 supplementation demonstrates significant reductions in frequency, severity, and attack duration, with no notable impact on monthly migraine days. Riboflavin supplementation demonstrated a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. However, there was no significant impact on the monthly migraine days.
Nausea event caused by migraine improved with CoQ10 but was limited in the number of the trials. Report on adverse events was limited to the minor side effects, which include episodes of diarrhoea and chromaturia and showed no difference with CoQ10.
8 Μαΐ 2017 · What is new and conclusion. Riboflavin is well tolerated, inexpensive and has demonstrated efficacy in the reduction of adult patient's migraine headache frequency. Additional data are needed, however, to resolve questions involving pharmacokinetic issues and pharmacogenomic implications of therapy.
Despite the huge health and economic burden of migraine headache, few medications have been approved for its prophylactic treatment, most of which can potentially induce serious adverse effects. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a supplement and has shown preliminary benefits in migraine prophylaxis.
Abstract Background. Non-medical, non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments are recommended for the prevention of migraine. The purpose of this randomized double-blind placebo controlled, multicenter trial was to evaluate the efficacy of a proprietary nutritional supplement containing a fixed combination of magnesium, riboflavin and Q10 as prophylactic treatment for migraine.
Objective: We conducted a short review of relevant literature which contends that migraine is associated with a wide-spread metabolic abnormality of mitochondrial oxidative metabolism, leading to the use of riboflavin and coenzyme Q10 as prophylactic therapy for migraine.
