A continuous chain of volcanic arcs and rifts defines the Ring of Fire, a 40,000-km-long seismic belt that runs around the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire extends from the southern tip of South America, through Eastern Asia and Australia, and then down to the West Pacific.
