Ludwig sent larger sized drums for Ringo to try, looking for something that would project more sound. Ringo decided on a Super Classic model. The oyster black pearl kit along with another Jazz Festival was shipped to Drum City.
15 Μαΐ 2023 · Ludwig Psychedelic Kit: This custom-designed drum kit, featuring a unique psychedelic pattern, was used by Ringo Starr during The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” era. The sizes included a 22-inch bass drum, 13-inch rack tom, 16-inch floor tom, and a Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum.
It was decided that a second Ludwig oyster black pearl Downbeat drum kit (identical to what Ringo was using) would be obtained while the Beatles were in the US on their first visit. The thought was to have one drum kit on the movie set for filming while the other was used for performances and in the recording studio.
This 1963 Super Classic Model Black Oyster set is by far the most perfect Super Classic Black Oyster Ringo set I’ve ever encountered. The set is virtually identical to the set Ringo Starr played with the Beatles for the majority of his career with the Beatles.
The Beatles’ Ringo Starr, seeking his first American drum set, purchased this Ludwig kit from London’s Drum City music store in 1963. The shop’s owner, Ivor Arbiter, designed the Beatles’ “drop-T” logo on the bass drum head so Ringo could also retain the Ludwig logo, demonstrating proof of its American provenance.
22 Οκτ 2012 · This kit includes the 22 inch bass drum; the right tom; the 16 inch floor tom; and a (rewrapped by Lawson Drums) Black Oyster Pearl Jazz Festival snare drum. I can't say I have ever seen a complete Ringo Kit, modified like Ringo's to accept two tom tom drums offered for sale anywhere.
