Ludwig sent larger sized drums for Ringo to try, looking for something that would project more sound. Ringo decided on a Super Classic model. The oyster black pearl kit along with another Jazz Festival was shipped to Drum City.
Several pictures exist of Ringo during his Beatles years playing on a small set of White Marine Pearl Ludwigs as well as the Black Oysters, and much later, on a large set of Natural Maple Ludwigs with double toms mounted on the bass drum, supposedly equipped with calfskin heads.
Ringo took possession of his new Ludwig drum set on May 12, 1963. The kit was delivered by Gerry Evans (store manager) and Mark Goodwin of Drum City to the Alpha Television Studios in Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire.
