Infected dogs develop bald, scaly patches with broken hairs. Dogs may also develop acne-like bumps on the skin. The most common sites affected by ringworm are the face, ear tips, tail, and feet. Symptoms and signs of ringworm in a dog. It can take up to three weeks from your dog becoming infected before you notice symptoms on them. Dermatophytes feed on hair, nails and dead skin cells. They infect one hair shaft then, gradually, all those surrounding it.
Ringworm is caused by a type of fungi called dermatophytes, which thrive in warm, moist environments. Think of it as the dog version of athlete’s foot. The condition is highly contagious, as the fungal spores that cause ringworm in dogs can live for 18 months in the natural environment.
