Since 2000, Shell Foundation has deployed $344 million of grant funding in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Its current portfolio consists of 71 early-stage businesses and new market builders.
In 2020, Shell Foundation made additional funding available to help early-stage businesses it supports remain financially resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, Shell Foundation in partnership with the UK government and USAID provided more than $27 million to companies in Africa and South Asia.
Since our inception nearly 25 years ago, Shell Foundation has worked towards alleviating poverty in Africa and Asia. We have played a critical role in advancing the energy access sector to tackle this issue. We are now on a mission to be at the heart of scaling it.
SF provides business support, grant funding and market links to help social enterprises prove their models, achieve financial independence and expand into new markets. Once a social enterprise model has proved viable and able to scale, SF creates intermediary businesses and industry associations to support market growth.
Although separate from Shell’s commercial interests, the foundation uses its relationship with Shell companies around the world to undertake programs supporting efforts to reduce the impact of fossil fuels, to help poor communities gain access to modern energy and to help them generate income.
4 Νοε 2021 · Royal Dutch Shell, the Hague-based oil major, on Wednesday said it has set up a $1.4 billion fund to support innovative companies working to accelerate energy transition. The fund, dedicated to start-up and scale-up companies over the next six years, is part of the oil giant’s efforts to reach a net-zero target.
