The Mood Meter is a tool that helps people of all ages build the RULER skills of emotional intelligence. It helps us understand how our emotions influence our thinking and behavior, and it empowers us to recognize and label our full range of emotions and manage them more skillfully.
RULER is an acronym for the five skills of emotional intelligence: Recognizing emotions in oneself and others. Understanding the causes and consequences of emotions. Labeling emotions with a nuanced vocabulary. Expressing emotions in accordance with cultural norms and social context. Regulating emotions with helpful strategies.
With key program facets such as the “Meta-Moment” and “Mood Meter,” students gain practical tools for identifying and expressing their feelings. The Meta-Moment encourages both students and adults to pause and think before acting, asking themselves, “How would my ‘best self’ react in this situation?
This app includes an updated Mood Meter (now with 144 words!) and was designed to help you gain greater insight around the causes and consequences of your feelings and learn research-based strategies to help you regulate your feelings to achieve greater well-being.
This mood meter is derived from the RULER Approach created by Yale University. The mood meter helps students to identify how they are feeling based off of the four quadrants on the meter.
