Governor's STEM Academies are programs designed to expand options for the general student population to acquire STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) literacy and other critical skills, knowledge and credentials that will prepare them for high-demand, high-wage, and high-skill careers in Virginia.
Many local 4-H programs have STEM clubs/events. For events, to enroll youth, volunteer with 4-H, or to create as STEM club in your community, please contact your local 4-H Extension agent.
4‑H programs are available in Virginia through local 4‑H clubs, 4‑H camps, in-school and after-school settings. 4‑H science programs provide 4‑H youth the opportunity to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) through fun, hands-on activities and projects.
The career and technical education credential, when required, could include the successful completion of an industry certification, a state licensure examination, a national occupational competency assessment, or the Virginia workplace readiness assessment.
4-H is the youth development education program of Virginia Cooperative Extension that is in partnership between Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. 4-H is rich with learning experiences where young people ages 5-18 can partner with caring adults and volunteers in a fellowship unlike any other program available to youth today.

All residents of Fairfax County are eligible to enroll in the Master Gardener Volunteer Training. This is an internationally recognized program of horticultural excellence. Trainees receive hands-on and classroom education from Extension agents and specialists, university faculty, and green industry professionals.
