Center for Land Based Learning (Sacramento Valley) Beginning Farmer Training. A 7 month intensive training program that combines lectures, hands-on farm experience, and farm visits. Topics include crop production, business planning, marketing, and development of personal business plans. Program starts in February and ends in September. Cost $5,000.
Agriculture. The Sacramento River watershed, including the valley and adjacent highlands. Citrus and nut orchards and cattle ranches are common to both halves of the Central Valley. The Sacramento Valley's agricultural industry also resembles that of the San Joaquin Valley to the south.
Our work centers on growing a viable food and agriculture economy; ensuring more purchasing of locally-grown foods by institutions and others; increasing access to healthy foods in underserved communities; improving environmental sustainability; and promoting agricultural innovation.
1 Οκτ 2024 · In modern times, California continues to produce wheat, other small grains, and forage crops. Dryland production of these crops tends to occur in the more water-rich Sacramento Valley and in foothill regions that are not suitable for irrigated agriculture.

Network members are currently working with producers in 39 counties, encompassing a diversity of climatic regions, ecosystems, soil types, and agricultural production systems, paving the way for broad adoption of carbon farming and soil health practices.
