Many teens hold jobs while attending school, and nearly all will work eventually. They need basic health and safety awareness so they can protect themselves on the job. It can literally be a matter of life and death.

The present study provides empirical support for the effectiveness of a foundational workplace safety and health curriculum, Talking Safety, to change adolescents’ workplace safety and health knowledge, attitude, norms, self-efficacy, and behavioral intention to engage in workplace safety actions.
What are my safety responsibilities at work? To work safely you should: Follow all safety rules and instructions. Use safety equipment and protective clothing when needed. Keep work areas clean and neat. Know what to do in an emergency. Report any health and safety hazards to your supervisor.
To ensure that youth stay safe on the job, it is important that both youth and employers know their rights and responsibilities. This includes ensuring that the environment is safe and that all necessary safety equipment (e.g., safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves) is provided.
