Star of India. The world’s oldest active sailing ship. She began her life on the stocks at Ramsey Shipyard in the Isle of Man in 1863. Iron ships were experiments of sorts then, with most vessels still being built of wood. Within five months of laying her keel, the ship was launched into her element.
Star of India is docked at the San Diego Maritime Museum, just south of San Diego International Airport, on the west side of North Harbor Drive at approximately Ash Street – all within the Port of San Diego tidelands. This location is slightly west of downtown San Diego, California.
Great spot on the harbor. You can step aboard the Star Of India and wonder her main decks and go below and see how passengers traveled in the day of sail. You can also step aboard the "Surprise" the ship seen in the movie "Master And Commander" This is a must see in San Diego.
