In fact, research shows that through effective small-group instruction, students can see great success. Read to find tips to successfully implement small-group instruction in your class.
Your role as a teacher in a small-group setting is ideally to: • get a discussion started. • step back into a more responsive, listening role. • give students plenty of time to really think about the implications of new ideas. • help students integrate the discussion with their existing knowledge and understanding.

As a small group teacher it is going to be important to: challenge students to think for themselves. help students to organise and structure their thoughts and ideas, encourage students to vocalise and discuss their views and understandings. design learning activities and tasks that require students to actively engage.
However, by using a variety of hands-on resources and visual reminders, the challenge can be made more enjoyable for both the teacher and students. We’ve put together some fun and engaging time activities and resources to make ‘teaching time’ a favourite pastime!
Time management might be the trickiest part of providing effective small group instruction. If time management is something you struggle with, I encourage you to be realistic with yourself and your schedule. I am guilty of overestimating what I can get in a specific amount of time.
