Just five miles away from the highest peak in SoCal - San Gorgonio - San Bernardino tops out at a respectable 10,649 feet. Hiking from Angelus Oaks, this 15-mile out-and-back trail climbs over 4,700 vertical feet. It makes for a very long day hike or a great weekend backpacking trip.
Current Conditions: A portion of the trail was burned over in the 2020 El Dorado Fire. Potential hazards include falling trees and limbs, loose rocks and ash pits.

The mid morning air temperature at San Jacinto Peak (13.6°F/-10°C) was several degrees colder than on 15th, but without the strong wind of the previous day overall it felt milder. The San Bernardino range was more directly in the path of storm cells, and looked to have received 1-2 inches of snow.

From Angelus Oaks trailhead (5,960') to the summit of San Bernardino Peak is 7.9 miles with 4700 feet of elevation gain. This trail takes you from deep pine forest to exposed manzanita slopes and visits the old Washington Monument survey point at 10,290 feet.
