Permit Info: Permits are required. Free permits are available through the San Gorgonio Wilderness Association. Restrictions: Group size limited to 12 people and 8 pack/riding animals per group. No campfires allowed. Portable gas stoves are allowed. Camp on a durable surface at least 100 feet away from trails and water sources.
The San Bernardino National Forest has eight designated Wildernesses: San Gorgonio, Cucamonga, San Jacinto, Santa Rosa, Bighorn Mountain, Cahuilla Mountain, South Fork San Jacinto, and part of the Sheep Mountain wilderness, area. Maps of these areas are available for purchase at ranger stations.
For day use, you need to obtain a wilderness permit from the San Bernardino National Forest Mill Creek Ranger Station in Mentone, by emailing the form found here to dayhike@swga.org. Display your Adventure Pass.
Check on interactive map (wilderness permit page) for water availability. Two and two-tenths miles further beyond Limber Pine Camp located on the San Bernardino Peak Divide Trail is San Bernardino (10,624′) and San Bernardino East Peaks.
31 Αυγ 2020 · Beginning September 1, 2020 day hikes up many popular trails in the San Bernardino National Forest will require a wilderness permit, and new trailhead quotas have been created to reduce overcrowding on the trails and help preserve the wilderness experience.
These permits can be obtained at the San Bernardino National Forest Mill Creek Ranger Station in Mentone, 34701 Mill Creek Road. You can also request via fax at (909) 794-1125. The Barton Flats Visitor Center on Hwy 38 and the Fawnskin Ranger Station in Big Bear can also issue these permits.
