San Gorgonio Mountain, also known locally as Mount San Gorgonio, or Old Greyback, is the highest peak in Southern California and the Transverse Ranges at 11,503 feet (3,506 m). It is in the San Bernardino Mountains, 27 miles (43 km) east of the city of San Bernardino and 12 miles (19 km) north-northeast of San Gorgonio Pass.
Mount San Gorgonio sits at over 11,500 feet, and it has a commanding presence as the tallest mountain in Southern California. This hike is not one that should be undertaken without a lot of training as it is a brutal ascent of over 5,400 feet and 17.5 miles round trip.
16 Δεκ 2018 · San Gorgonio Peak (also known as “Old Grayback”) is a beautiful and challenging out and back trail in the San Bernardino National Forest. This peak is the tallest in Southern California and offers incredible 360 degree views of the entire surrounding region.
The wilderness area is crisscrossed by six major trails and several secondary ones that lead to 20 primitive camps and over ten peaks located above 10,000 feet to include Mt. San Gorgonio at 11,499 feet above sea level.
