23 Νοε 2012 · The objectives of this article are to discuss the epidemiology and natural history of sarcoidosis; to review the classic imaging features of sarcoidosis on radiography, CT, and 67 Ga nuclear medicine scans; and to present clinical examples of sarcoidosis as seen on PET and PET/CT in the chest, abdomen and pelvis, and bones.
PET has the potential to improve the diagnosis of sarcoidosis and alter treatment decisions but prospective trials are needed to define the role of PET while also standardizing the performance and interpretation of the imaging modality.
FDG PET/CT may be especially useful for assessing reversible granuloma, treatment response, disease extent, occult disease, and cardiac or osseous sarcoidosis, and determining the most suitable biopsy site.

In this article, an update on FDG PET/CT in sarcoidosis is provided. The use of FDG PET/CT in the diagnostic process of sarcoidosis is explained, especially in determining treatable inflammatory lesions in symptomatic patients with indecisive conventional tests.
Because CT scan is sensitive for detecting focal malignant lesions in findings (positive PET and negative CT) in the lungs, discrepancy between PET and CT scans should be considered as indicative of the possibility of sarcoidosis.
