Quercus acutissima (Sawtooth Oak) is a large deciduous tree adorned with an open, broad-spreading, rounded crown. The foliage of chestnut-like, lustrous dark green leaves with bristle-toothed, slightly wavy edges, turns yellow to golden brown in the fall.
Quercus acutissima, the sawtooth oak, is an Asian species of oak native to China, Tibet, Korea, Japan, Indochina (Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia) and the Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan, northeastern India). [3] It is widely planted in many lands and has become naturalized in parts of North America. [4]
The Sawtooth Oak has simple, alternately arranged leaves. They are lanceolate in shape, with many parallel axillary veins on either side of the midrib that end at the margin in awns (bristles). The leaf is glossy dark green above and yellow-green below.
The Sawtooth Oak is botanically called Quercus acutissima. The Tree is a deciduous tree, it will be up to 30 m (99 ft) high. The leaves are oblong and the flowers are yellowish. The tree likes Sonne - Halbschatten at the location and the soil should be permeable soils.
The sawtooth oak is native to open woodlands across eastern Asia, from northeastern India to northern Vietnam and eastward to Japan and Korea. Introduced to the United States in 1862, it has gradually gained popularity in cultivation over the last five decades.
