23 Ιουλ 2020 · Day One: Sawtooth Pass Trailhead to Pinto Lake via Timber Gap. 8 miles, +3,700 -2,800 ft elevation. Starting at the trailhead, the trail climbs through mixed open shrub and tree patches for about two miles, with ever-increasing views of the mountains to the south, until reaching Timber Gap.
From Glacier Pass, descend cross-country through alpine meadows and bristlecone pine to Spring Lake. Choose from a plethora of awe-inspiring backcountry campsites at Spring Lake, along with some decent fishing for small trout. Here you will catch mostly rainbow and California golden trout in the 6-inch range.

5 ημέρες πριν · This route starts from a small dirt pullout on Sawtooth Road and takes the Sawtooth Trail north to the Middle Sawtooth Trailhead. From there, the Wood Splitter Jump Trail steeply ascends to the junction with the Bobbles Trail.
This trail leads through a beautiful forest over looking the Truckee River canyon. The route can be rocky in certain sections. It is generally considered to be a moderately difficult mountain bike and hiking trail.
The trip begins with a significant climb out of the Mineral King Area over Timber Gap. Begin this day early to avoid climbing this exposed trail in the direct sun. Once at the top, the trail sharply descends into the valley below. Redwood Meadow and campground makes for a convenient stopping point if you are unable to make it to Hamilton Creek.
