Southwestern Bell was established as Missouri and Kansas Telephone Company in 1882, and was renamed Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1921 and again as Southwestern Bell in 1964. In 1999, the SBC Global Network's logo was added to the side of the logo, which received a new wordmark.
The fifth logo is installed for use by local Bell System companies in 1964, followed by the sixth and final Bell logo in 1969. Southwestern Bell Corp. is renamed SBC Communica-tions Inc. at its annual meeting of stockholders and adopts a new logo.
Starting in 1999, SBC Communications began branding its operating companies as part of the "SBC Global Network," with the name enclosed in a circle with the Pacific Telesis "access" mark to the logos of its divisions (Ameritech, Nevada Bell, Pacific Bell, SNET, Southwestern Bell).
Company History: Originally one of the seven regional holding companies formed after the breakup of American Telephone & Telegraph Corporation's (AT & T) Bell System in 1983, SBC Communications Inc. has emerged in the 1990s as a national provider of local telephone services.
In 2005, SBC acquired AT&T Corp, creating the new AT&T, a leader in global communications for businesses. The acquisition of BellSouth in 2006 consolidated ownership of Cingular Wireless. And AT&T led one of the most significant transformations in communications since the invention of the telephone ... the birth of the mobile Internet.
SBC eventually became AT&T in late 2005, and the AT&T name was applied for the service. Beta testing began in San Antonio in 2005 and AT&T U-verse was commercially launched June 26, 2006, in San Antonio.
