This self-serving bias protects the ego or social identity from responsibility while increasing prejudice towards the out-group blamed for feelings of frustration.
Scapegoating theory says that prejudiced people believe that they are society's victims. Exploitation theory maintains that intolerant individuals abuse others, whereas scapegoaters feel that they are being abused themselves.
