  2. Searchlight, Nevada, is an old mining camp located about an hour south of Las Vegas. It was founded when gold was discovered in 1897. As word spread, the camp and surrounding area was flooded with miners.

  3. Searchlight began to boom in 1902 and reached its peak in 1907. As a typical mining town, it had a reported population of 1,500 people. In fact, at the time it was larger than Las Vegas, NV.

  5. Nice small museum with self-guided tour of exhibits. Focus is on the development of the area around Searchlight and mining. Free. Plenty of parking. About a 4 minute drive from the main highway, look for the sign. Located inside the community center. Might be of special interest to Nevada or mining history buffs.
