Semi-pro leagues have existed since the beginning of American football, but were far more common in the early and mid 20th century than they are today. Football is especially suited for semi-pro play, and most leagues often operate at a semi-professional level due to cost concerns.
Moved to Milwaukee and became the Milwaukee Hawks (1951–1955), moved again to St. Louis, Missouri (1955–1968), then moved once more and are now the Atlanta Hawks (1968–Present). 25 Αυγ 2009 · Based in Chicago, the MSFL currently consists of 16 teams; ten in Illinois, three in Indiana, and three in Wisconsin. Three teams have won national semi-pro football championships under the MSFL banner; the Detroit Seminoles in 2002 and the Chicago Thunder in 2006 and 2008.
Chicago Strikers is a Men's Semi-pro soccer team that currently competes in the UPSL Premier Division. It consists of a Spring and Fall season that both conclude with National Playoffs. The UPSL was formed in 2011 and occupies the unofficial fourth tier of US Soccer.
