Smaller mammals like jackrabbits, kangaroo rats, skunks and bats also survive. Other animals include insects, spiders, scorpions, reptiles and birds.
Most of the animals in the semi-arid biome are active in daytime as well as nighttime, animals such as birds, various insects, and reptiles who often search protection in underground burrows. One notable species are the jackrabbits, herbivores that eat grass, twigs, and plants.
A semi-arid climate, semi-desert climate, or steppe climate is a dry climate sub-type. It is located in regions that receive precipitation below potential evapotranspiration, but not as low as a desert climate.
