2 Αυγ 2023 · Semimembranosus is a relatively large muscle that originates from a small facet on the rough superolateral surface of the ischial tuberosity. The tendon of semimembranosus appears at the level of the mid-thigh and continues caudally toward the point of insertion at the medial condyle of the tibia.
It's primary action is knee flexion, knee internal rotation and hip extension [2] [1] . It also plays a main role providing knee stability. Infact the semimembranosus distal tendon is a major component of the posteromedial corner of the knee.
The semimembranosus muscle (/ ˌsɛmiˌmɛmbrəˈnoʊsəs /) is the most medial of the three hamstring muscles in the thigh. It is so named because it has a flat tendon of origin. It lies posteromedially in the thigh, deep to the semitendinosus muscle. It extends the hip joint and flexes the knee joint.
22 Μαρ 2024 · The semimembranosus muscle is one of the three muscles comprising the hamstring group located at the back of the thigh. It is a large, flat, and elongated muscle, important for both knee and hip movements. The semimembranosus is notable for its extensive membranous tendon from which it gets its name, playing a crucial role in
24 Οκτ 2022 · Actions: Flexion of the leg at the knee joint. Extension of thigh at the hip. Medially rotates the thigh at the hip joint and the leg at the knee joint. Innervation: Tibial part of the sciatic nerve. Blood Supply: Profunda femoris artery. Fig 1. The muscles of the posterior thigh. Fig 2.
Actions & Testing. The semimembranosus muscle is involved in multiple actions: - flexes the leg at the knee joint; - medially rotates the leg at the knee joint while this joint is held in a semiflexed position; - extends the thigh at the hip joint.
