2 Αυγ 2023 · Semimembranosus is a relatively large muscle that originates from a small facet on the rough superolateral surface of the ischial tuberosity. The tendon of semimembranosus appears at the level of the mid-thigh and continues caudally toward the point of insertion at the medial condyle of the tibia.
11 Φεβ 2024 · The muscles in the posterior compartment of the thigh are collectively known as the hamstrings. They consist of the biceps femoris, semitendinosus and semimembranosus - as a group they act to extend at the hip, and flex at the knee. They are innervated by the sciatic nerve.
The semimembranosus acts synergistically with the popliteus muscle through the fibrous extension towards this muscle. The distal semimembranosus complex actively pulls the posterior horn of the medial meniscus, protecting it from being crushed between the medial femoral condyle and the posterior medial tibial plateau during knee flexion.
7 Νοε 2022 · Interactive 3D model of the semimembranosus muscle and information on its origin, insertion, action, innervation, and blood supply.
3 Νοε 2023 · The hamstring muscles, or simply the hamstrings, are a group of three long muscles located in the posterior compartment of the thigh, shaping up the surface anatomy of this region. These muscles are the biceps femoris, semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles.
2 Ιαν 2022 · Semimembranosus. Origin. Superior lateral quadrant of the ischial tuberosity. Insertion. Posterior surface of the medial tibial condyle. Action. Extends the thigh, flexes the knee, and also rotates the tibia medially, especially when the knee is flexed. Innervation.
24 Οκτ 2022 · The semimembranosus is a muscle within the posterior compartment of the thigh. It is located deep to the semitendinosus muscle within the medial aspect of the posterior thigh. Attachments: Originates from the ischial tuberosity (more superiorly than the origin of the semitendinosus and biceps femoris). Attaches to the medial tibial condyle.
