2 Αυγ 2023 · Semimembranosus is a relatively large muscle that originates from a small facet on the rough superolateral surface of the ischial tuberosity. The tendon of semimembranosus appears at the level of the mid-thigh and continues caudally toward the point of insertion at the medial condyle of the tibia.
The semimembranosus acts synergistically with the popliteus muscle through the fibrous extension towards this muscle. The distal semimembranosus complex actively pulls the posterior horn of the medial meniscus, protecting it from being crushed between the medial femoral condyle and the posterior medial tibial plateau during knee flexion.
The semimembranosus muscle acts on both the hip and the knee joint in the same way as the other two muscles of the posterior compartment of the thigh. It's also an antagonist of the quadriceps femoris .
⭐ Semimembranosus Muscle ⭐💪 Origin: Ischial tuberosity💪 Insertion: Medial condyle of the tibia💪 Action: Flexes knee, extends the hip, medially rotates tib...
24 Οκτ 2022 · The semimembranosus is a muscle within the posterior compartment of the thigh. It is located deep to the semitendinosus muscle within the medial aspect of the posterior thigh. Attachments: Originates from the ischial tuberosity (more superiorly than the origin of the semitendinosus and biceps femoris). Attaches to the medial tibial condyle.
7 Νοε 2022 · Interactive 3D model of the semimembranosus muscle and information on its origin, insertion, action, innervation, and blood supply.
22 Μαρ 2024 · The semimembranosus muscle starts with a thick, fleshy upper portion and transitions into a broad, flat tendon as it approaches the knee. This structure is why it’s termed “semimembranosus,” as it has a membranous appearance towards its insertion.
