He knows the end is near. Yet, through it all, His heart is still overcome with love for His Disciples.

9 Νοε 2014 · John (13:1) states that Jesus “loved His own.” John 3:16 states that God loves the world, but here the emphasis is on Jesus’ love for His own, not for the world. God loves the world by making provision for the sins of all that will believe in Jesus.
Jesus had just spoken of his betrayal, “I tell you, one of you will betray me” (John 13:21). When asked who it would be, Jesus indicated it was Judas son of Simon Iscariot (13:26). Then right after Judas left the room Jesus gave his disciples “a new commandment, that you love one another” (v. 34).
It is a washing away of all the guilt, all the defilement, and all the evil and sin of the entire life -- past, present, and future. But as you walk through life, Jesus knows, there will be defilement contracted in the feet, in the walk, and that needs to be washed away.
As Paul puts it in Galatians, "By love, serve one another," (Galatians 5:13). This is to be true of all Christians, but especially those who are in positions of teaching and authority. Their authority, as leaders, will be directly related to their willingness to serve.
