Verses 31-39 are a carefully crafted summary statement, really a “victory song of salvation.” With much repetition, the summary makes one basic assertion: God is on our side. . . The structure of the summary is question and answer. Paul asks six questions, in two different sequences.
Romans 8:31-39. THE DISTINCTION OF THE SPIRIT LIFE. Intro: Of all the promises made to the child of God relating to our salvation, to me, the most precious is the fact that those who are saved by grace are saved forever. Of course, I am referring to the doctrine of the eternal security of the believer.
First of all, God is for you, not against you. Look at verse 31: “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) Notice how Paul communicates this truth through a series of questions, and how carefully he words these questions.
