Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be diagnosed with blood and urine tests. In many cases, CKD is only found when a routine blood or urine test you have for another problem shows that your kidneys may not be working normally.

Creatinine in itself is not harmful but a high level indicates that the kidneys are not working properly.
A Urea Reduction Ratio (URR) test may be used to work out the percentage reduction of waste products (such as urea) in the blood, after one haemodialysis session. Tests are usually carried out every three months.
