I think that the break room apology scripts are used as leverage/blackmail against outies if they ever decide to escalate things against Lumon. This is why the apologies are repeated until they are sincere, and they are recorded to be used later if the outies ever sue the company.
You've asked a reasonable question and there are just small clues in the show that hint there's more going on in the Break Room, which makes it a bad experience. One thing to note is the people hear voices while the process is going on.
From Helly's experience it seems like the longer you're in the break room, you start hearing something from behind a particular door, and it appears to be different from person to person, but it's something that causes you unease and distress. Reminiscent of Room 101 in 1984.
18 Οκτ 2022 · It is revealed that severed employees who went to the Break Room receive injuries, heavily implied to be resulting from physical punishment/torture or self-harm due to resisting punishment. It can be inferred that Helly was also threatened with the same punishment.
Severed individuals are taken to the break room when they act out in a negative manner. When a person goes to the Break Room, they are forced to repeat a script hundreds or thousands of times until they are physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted.
