16 Απρ 2013 · Patients with severe sepsis have a high ongoing mortality after severe sepsis with only 61% surviving five years. They also have a significantly lower physical QOL compared to the population norm but mental QOL scores were only slightly below population norms up to five years after severe sepsis.
Abstract. Objective: Sepsis is responsible for a massive burden of disease, with a global estimate of 48.9 million cases resulting in approximately 11 million deaths annually. Survivors of sepsis may also experience long-term impairments that can persist for years after hospital discharge.
24 Φεβ 2023 · The length of time before sepsis becomes fatal varies, but the risk of death from severe sepsis increases every hour a person does not receive treatment. The chance of survival improves if treatment occurs within 1 hour of diagnosis.
PROGNOSIS AND OUTCOMES OF SEVERE SEPSIS IN OLDER PATIENTS. There are high mortality rates of around 50%-60% in elderly patients with severe sepsis and septic shock[4,9,73]. The mortality due to severe sepsis in elderly patients is 1.3-1.5 times higher than that in younger cohorts[4,9].
Patients with severe infections and especially sepsis have a high in-hospital mortality, but even hospital survivors face long-term sequelae, decreased health-related quality of life, and high risk of death, suggesting a great need for specialized aftercare.
1 Νοε 2014 · The clinical features of severe sepsis vary significantly, depending on multiple factors including host characteristics, site and severity of infection, and time course of sepsis before therapy.
